New-generation driver seats offering an extensive comfort upgrade
Amberg, April 23, 2018 - Comfortable and ergonomic operation of forklift trucks is the result of innovative technology. At this year’s CeMAT, Grammer is showcasing a new-generation series of seats based on the MSG 65 and MSG 75 suspension systems with the new S700 seat top for electric and engine forklifts. The newly developed seat top combined with the low-profile suspension has resulted in a substantially lower seat index point. This means that nearly all types of material handling equipment can be fitted with the premium seat together with its numerous comfort functions. The wide ergonomic cushions as well as the innovative new combined seat cushion depth and tilt adjustment give drivers a comfortable and convenient seating position.
The new electric control system fitted to the MSG 75 automatically adjusts to the driver’s weight. The seat adapts immediately and automatically to the weight of the individual driver, thus materially helping to ease the strain on the spine and vertebrae. In practice, the necessary individual seat settings are often neglected if there are frequently alternating drivers. The fully automatic weight adjustment eliminates the risk of a poor seat position potentially leading to health problems in the medium to long term. A sufficient suspension stroke in either direction is ensured at all times, with the weight adjustment system monitoring the available suspension stroke during operation and making any necessary adjustments immediately. In this way, the driver finds an optimum seating position at all times. A further new feature is the variable height adjustment (+/- 20 mm), allowing the driver to adapt the seat to his or her own height. This ensures that the driver always remains in the optimum vibration range. The optional fore/aft isolator for the MSG 75 reduces horizontal vibration in the direction of travel caused by pitching movements in the vehicle at higher speeds or on an uneven surface. With the new S700 seat top, the seat can be fitted with numerous convenient options such as active climate control or the Dualmotion function.
The active seat climate system ensures optimum temperatures regardless of exterior conditions. This system removes the driver’s body heat and sweat via the upholstery, temporarily storing it in the activated carbon layer located beneath. This ensures that the seat surface remains pleasantly dry without annoying air circulation. If necessary, seat heating can be activated in cold weather.
A further optional extra for the new seats is the innovative “Dualmotion” back support. Forklift drivers must frequently twist around to face backwards or drive in reverse over protracted periods of time. This substantially heightens the risk of back ache or even injury. A patented proprietary development, Grammer’s “Dualmotion” can help decisively in easing strain on the driver in all driving situations. What makes this innovation so special is the fact that the upper part of the back rest automatically adjusts to the driver’s position when he or she twists around the face backwards. As a result, the seat provides optimum support. In the interests of maximum convenience, the installation of an additional control element has been dispensed with. Instead, the seat adapts automatically and intuitively when the driver turns around, reducing strain during forklift operation.
CeMAT is taking place together with the Hannover Fair on April 23 - 27, 2018. You can find Grammer at Stand L03 in Hall 26.
